A PIR Sensor is an electronic sensor used to detect motion by sensing changes in infrared (IR) radiation emitted by humans and warm objects. It is widely used in security systems, automatic lighting, and smart automation projects. The sensor only detects motion—it does not emit infrared radiation, making it energy efficient and reliable.
Key Features
-
Detects human and animal motion
-
Passive infrared sensing (low power consumption)
-
Adjustable sensitivity and delay time
-
Digital output (HIGH/LOW signal)
-
Compact and lightweight design
-
Easy to interface with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and microcontrollers
Working Principle
The PIR sensor detects infrared radiation changes in its field of view. When a warm body (like a human) moves in front of the sensor, the IR levels change, triggering the output signal. When no motion is detected, the output remains LOW.
