A Water Flow Sensor is an electronic device used to measure the flow rate of water or other compatible liquids passing through a pipe. It works by using a rotor and Hall-effect sensor that generates electrical pulses proportional to the water flow. These pulses can be easily read by microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, etc.
This sensor is widely used in water monitoring, automation projects, smart irrigation systems, and industrial applications.
Key Features
-
Accurate water flow measurement
-
Hall-effect based pulse output
-
Easy interface with Arduino & microcontrollers
-
Low power consumption
-
Compact and lightweight design
-
Durable plastic body (food-grade in many models)
Working Principle
When water flows through the sensor, it rotates an internal turbine/rotor.
A Hall-effect sensor detects this rotation and produces a series of electrical pulses.
The frequency of these pulses is directly proportional to the water flow rate, allowing precise calculation of:
-
Flow rate (L/min)
-
Total water usage (Liters)
